Research

We are currently conducting research in two distinct fields: Educational Psychology and Advanced Instructional Technology.

Our study of educational psychology focuses on learning, cognition & motivation. Specifically, we want to know, understand and research for advancement how K-12 and higher ed can be more engaged in their learning and therefore more instrinsically motivated. Taking this to the next level, we are working on how kids in K-6 can best utilize technology to increase the rate in which they learn.

With respect to Advanced Instructional Technology we are researching how kids in K-6 use technology such as educational software or games. We strive for breadth and depth in our research. Breadth in that we look at three distinct aspects of the learner's experience: learning, motivation, and usability. And, depth in that our analysis goes all the way down to evaluating each click they make while working through an assignment. The goal of these tedious measures is to find patterns that lead to improvement.

Learning Technology Lab

Welcome to the Learning Technology Lab. Here we review innovations in technology that relate to education. We look at three primary fields: software development, virtual reality & artificial intelligence.

K-12 Feature:

Featured Organization: Whyville
Featured Site: www.whyville.net

Whyville is a virtual world where boys and girls from all over the real world come to chat, play, learn, and have fun together. You design your face, earn clams by playing games, hang out at the beach, and go to town events at the Greek Theater. You can start your own business, buy a car and give your friends a ride, or write for the town newspaper.
